Being Open

open book with blue zodiac end papers and text that reads July

July began with a migraine that lasted several days, sadly. We did go over to have dinner with my inlaws the weekend of the 4th, which was nice. An easy dinner of grilling hot dogs, Eric’s delicious baked beans, and this amazing deviled egg potato salad that we discovered. We watched fireworks on tv and listened to them being set off in the street by our stupid neighbors when we got home.

scene from Buck Rogers

We watched the new season of Bosch, which was really good. I think this was the last season. If you haven’t watched that show, I highly recommend it. When we went looking for something else to watch we got a big case of nostalgia and decided to watch Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. I remember watching this show when I was little, but wow watching it now it is super cheesy and very dated. The second season is even worst than the first. The first season at least has some charm.

Dirk Benedict as Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica

When we finished that little timewarp back to my childhood, we decided to take another (better) trip down memory lane and watch the original Battlestar Galactica series. Starbuck was one of my first ever crushes, along with Han Solo. Clearly, even at a young age I had a type.

And, as I mentioned previously, I’ve been completely obsessing about buying my first Bloodmilk piece. I decided that this year, since it is going to be a significant birthday, I wanted to purchase something special to mark the occasion. I had settled on the piece I wanted, but then Bloodmilk announced they were going to do another vault release of discontinued pieces and amongst them was the piece I’d been dreaming about forever…the Night Creature. I’m so thrilled to have this piece on order and can’t wait for it to arrive. The description of the piece talks a lot about embracing the shadow self, which I feel like I’ve really been doing this year with being open.

woman with red hair and glasses and text that reads: Ironically, the photo of me in my new glasses is blurry.

I also got glasses. I’ve previously had some distance glasses for driving and I occasionally use reading glasses, but now I actually am in need of full on progressives. I ordered them from Zenni, and I’m pretty happy with them. Eric actually picked them out. They are taking awhile to get used to, but I think they will help a lot once I get acclimated.

two women talking

A friend of mine passed away near the end of the month. She had cancer and only a handful of people knew. So, I was shocked to hear that she was gone. She was such a light and such a beautiful soul. I will miss her and I will always be grateful she led me to Rev. Kay. The photo above is one of my favorite photos of the two of them together.

text reading Boundaries & Overgiving: Although you may feel incredibly alive right now, it's also possible to feel overwhelmed by this energy. You may be getting less sleep than usual, since your consciousness is so greatly expanded. Some people may feel anxious or find that irrational fears are surfacing. This can happen because any previously hidden - or "shadow" - aspects of yourself or your environment are now being illuminated and exposed.

This month was another tough one, with a lot of anxiety and sadness, but I keep reminding myself that my life is really being shifted as a part of being focused on being open. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s allowing me to grow and move into what I’ve dreamed about.
