Devil’s Tail and Prince Edward

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a Sunday Night Cocktail. And since it’s almost the weekend again, I thought it was a good way to ring in a Thursday. Today I’ve got two for the price of one for you. First up is the Prince Edward, which was Eric’s drink. He enjoyed this one, and it allowed us to again use some of that Lillet that he’d purchased for the sole purpose of making a Vesper. Here’s the recipe for a Prince Edward…

Prince Edward

1 3/4 oz. Scotch
1/2 oz Lillet
1/4 oz. Drambuie
1 slice cocktail orange in syrup

Shake Scotch, Lillet and Drambuie well with ice.
Strain over rocks into pre-chilled old-fashioned glass.
Garnish with orange slice.

Of course, you know me with the garnishes. So, no orange slice here. But Eric enjoyed his cocktail, nonetheless.

Now, for me we whipped up a Devil’s Tail. And of course, I was thrilled when it turned out pink!

Devil’s Tail

1 1/2 oz golden rum
1 oz vodka
1/2 oz lime juice
1/4 oz grenadine
1/4 oz apricot liqueur
1/3 cup crushed ice
lime peel

Blend rum, vodka, line juice, grenadine, apricot liqueur and ice at low speed for 10 to 15 seconds. Pour into pre-chilled deep-saucer champagne glass. Twist lime peel over drink and drop into glass.

Powerfully pleasant rather than pugnacious.

As you can see, we went with a martini glass rather than a saucer champagne glass. Although I do dearly wish I had some of those. Anyway, although I had very high hopes for this drink, it was way too strong for me. I probably would have also enjoyed it more had I not had an allergic reaction to it, which involved my throat closing up. Nice. So, I won’t be going back for another one of these any time soon.

But, the evening was supplemented with great food. Eric made grilled pizzas, which is one of my favorite things. He even made a dessert pizza for us to share (his half had banana slices on it).

That’s my pizza on the left. It had sauce, onions, fresh basil from the garden, chicken, roasted garlic and cheese. It was soooo good. I think Eric’s also had banana peppers and roasted red peppers.

He also made a “white” pizza that had grilled chicken, roasted garlic, olive oil and cheese on it. This one was my favorite I think.

So other than the cocktail fail for me, it was a fabulous evening. And so tasty!
