The Olympic Edition

Poster for the London Olympics with graphic representations of things like Big Ben, the London Eye, double decker buses, and also different sports like cycling, swimming, volleyball

Thursday has snuck up on me again!  And now it’s AUGUST!  How does this happen?  Anyway, it’s been almost a week since the 2012 Olympics began and I thought I’d spend this TILT post writing about that.  As you know, I’m way behind on my tv watching, so needless to say Eric and I did not watch the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics on Friday, when it happened.  We finally got it all watched last night.  (And by the way, I did finally finish watching the Oscars too!)

I really enjoyed the Opening Ceremony and it brought to mind all those things I love about the Olympics.  Watching the Olympics reminds me of when I was growing up.  It was a huge event for my family to sit down and watch the games.  It was always so inspiring, and more than anything I loved that we all watched it together.  And I suppose that with my dad gone now, those kinds of memories are even more precious.  Watching the Olympics is important to me.  It’s something I truly love and I don’t want to miss out on.

There were a lot of cool things about the ceremony, but my favorite was the lighting of the cauldron from the torches.  So very awe-inspiring.

I love that the world comes together, not only to participate in the games, but also to watch the games.  It’s a shared experience, and one that I very much appreciate being a part of.  I do hope that I am able to see more of the games themselves, now that I’ve watched the Opening Ceremony.  And hey, I have to be grateful that we’re watching them only days late instead of years late, like we did with the Beijing Olympics!

And seeing the Opening Ceremony in London has reminded me that I still need to go back and watch the Diamond Jubilee celebration as well!  One of these days I’ll get caught up, maybe!

So, since it’s Thursday, time to recap what I’m grateful for this week:

  • Exciting redecorating going on at my house
  • A great dinner out with my husband (it felt like old times!)
  • An unexpected offer of an entertainment center from a friend
  • Having my family over to visit and introduce them to the kittens
  • Pizza!
  • Getting to watch the Opening Ceremony (of course!)
  • new polish arriving from butter London
  • Finally having a hard talk I’ve been dreading
  • Eric ordering the Lana del Rey CD for me

And there’s one last thing…

Hello, Mr. Beckham!

  1. I am woefully behind on all tv and haven’t watched much of the olympics. At most, an hour…terrible! Love that print at the top. I laughed at the David Beckham photo. He is hot. Someone recently asked me to vote between Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. Seriously?? Beckham all the way! Glad to hear you had a nice week.
