I think fragrance is an essential part of how you present your self, a piece of the complete picture people see. I certainly don’t condone swathing yourself in something that anyone at twenty paces can smell, rather it is like a little reward for those that you allow close enough to you to catch a hint of. Since smell is such a powerful way to catalogue and evoke memories, it should be a priority in any woman’s beauty and fashion choices.
Around Christmas-time I ran out of one of my choice perfumes, Covet by Sarah Jessica Parker. I also wear Lovely and tend to save it for the warmer months. But, with an empty bottle in my possession, I decided that I would replace it with a new fragrance. But, what to choose? I went out the week before Christmas (bad idea) and tried to find myself a new scent that was “me”. Other than the amusing show of watching two young guys attempt to help each other buy perfume for their girlfriends, the shopping trip was a total bust. I gave up, discouraged, and have continued to stare at that empty bottle on my dresser for four months.
So, here I am with Spring beckoning me to try something new, and I think I’ve got my choices narrowed down to a few. While I’d like to have a bottle of each, I think I’ll just go with one new fragrance for now.

I am enamored with perfume, and so the idea of finding a new sensory identity is rather exciting to me. And one of the reasons I’d like to have a collection of scents to choose from is so that I can decide “who do I want to be today”. And I kind of love that.
Great post – I also like to have several fragrances to choose from. I also have a bottle of Covet in my bathroom cabinet at the moment.
I like the ones that are on your short list. The ones that I'm wearing at the moment are Christian Dior's Escale a Portofino (a classic eau de Cologne type fragrance), Issey Miyake's A Scent Eau de Parfum Florale (a lovely modern rose) Michael Kors (a gorgeous tuberose) and Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. I would be really interested to know if you've tried any of those fragrances and what you think of them.
