I took a break from my reread of the Fever series

I took a break from my reread of the Fever series for something else. With the release of book 2 in the Alex Stern series, some friends and I decided to either read for the first time or reread as a refresher Leigh Bardugo’s The Ninth House. It was a first read for me, but this book had long been on my TBR because it falls into the dark academia genre, which you know I adore.

Life stuff kept this from being a quick read but I enjoyed every minute I spent with this book. I love Alex as a character and learning with her as she is introduced to the different houses and her own abilities kept my curiosity piqued. If you haven’t read this one already, I highly recommend it. I got my copy from the library, but will definitely be adding the hardback to my personal library in the near future. And now I can’t wait to read Hell Bent.

Every weekend we have dinner with Eric’s dad and

Every weekend we have dinner with Eric’s dad and his sister. Usually she makes the dessert because she is the High Queen of Chocolate, but every so often Eric requests I make the dessert. This past weekend he asked for Applesauce Cake and I obliged.

I haven’t made this in a few years and the recipe actually calls for making your own applesauce from scratch. But, even with premade applesauce it was still damn good.

February feels full of change - from the ice storm

February feels full of change - from the ice storm last week to rather balmy temps this week. Imbolc marked the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. I’ve seen the robins return in force to my yard to fill up on berries.

I’m also feeling the stirrings of change, and wanting to push myself up out of the winter ground. I have been quiet, hibernating, withdrawn into myself, resting. Anyone else feeling this winter energy? Perhaps now it’s time to emerge and start the transition towards new beginnings.
