I finished reading the sixth book in the Fever ser

I finished reading the sixth book in the Fever series, Iced, coincidentally at the same time Dallas was hit with an ice storm. While it wasn't planned, there is something about reading a book in its "season" that really adds to the experience.

I have a love/hate relationship with this book. When I originally read this series, I initially opted to not read Iced because I found Dani super annoying and really no interest in reading a book focused on her and without Mac & Barrons. When Burned was later released I knew I was going to have to read this one, so I did. And admittedly, my perspective of Dani did change over time. Rereading Iced was much less annoying than it was the first time around, probably due to knowing what comes later, but it's still probably my least favorite book in the series.

Continuing on my reread of the Fever series by Kar

Continuing on my reread of the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning, I finished Shadowfever over the weekend. As I mentioned previously when I finished Dreamfever, rereading this series has given me the opportunity to clear out some emotional attachments that these books reminded me of. With this book, the feelings were even stronger.

Part of what I love about reading, and the books that really resonate with me the most, are the ones that dig up those deep feelings and memories and give me a space to process them. Mac's transformation as a character and how she's forced to delve into questions of who she is and look back to how she's always been a certain way that never made sense at the time, really hit me hard in this book. I originally read this book in the year after my dad died, when I was dealing with the weight of trying to hold my family together, but also when I was just starting to learn things about myself - that I am intuitive, highly sensitive, and empathic. And suddenly, looking back into my memories things started to make sense. I started to understand more about who I am. I suspected that my dad was the same way, which made me suddenly understand him better but also doubled my grief because now I could no longer have that conversation with him.

Rereading this book also gave me a new perspective on my word of the year - Authentic - that maybe, just maybe, being authentic isn't just about allowing myself to be who I am in the world (externally), but it's also about embracing all those parts of me that I've been afraid to look at. Maybe it's about no longer allowing myself to be small, to not hide my light, and to fully embody my true self. Maybe being authentic means taking a hard look inside too. (I'm suddenly reminded of Feyre seeing her true self in the mirror).

So, I'm on to the next book in the series - Iced. And looking forward to what the rest of these books have to teach me this time around.

Each year for the past few years, I've done a Whee

Each year for the past few years, I've done a Wheel of the Year tarot spread to see what the new year holds for me each month and overall. At the beginning of this year, a friend introduced me to how to find my life path card in tarot and subsequently my card for the year. So, in addition to doing my annual Wheel of the Year spread, I also found my card for 2023 - The Magician.

As soon as I determined The Magician was my card of the year, I immediately sensed how perfect it is. The Magician is all about manifestation and inspired action. Having already chosen my word for the year - Authentic - this card is showing me that I am poised at the precipice of creating my innermost desires. If I combine a clear vision of what I want to manifest, the passion and motivation to take action, and bring my higher self into alignment with my physical body and day-to-day actions I can transform into someone who is fully embodying her true self.

This card from @thecreepingmoon 's Anima Mundi deck features an owl butterfly and the infinity symbol, both of which speak to me on a deep level and adding another layer to this card.

Finished my first book of the year last night - Dr

Finished my first book of the year last night - Dreamfever by Karen Marie Moning. I’ve been rereading the Fever series with some friends and I read the first three books in December. This is one of my favorite series and it has been so good to revisit these characters.

When I first read these books, I borrowed the first four from a friend who highly recommended them. Sadly, that friendship has long since gone by the wayside and rereading these books has been a way to clear out those memories and replace them with new ones. (I also decided to hunt down the original hardcovers to add to my own collection.)

The cliffhanger at the end of this book had me running out to buy the next book back in 2013, and this morning the first thing I did was go dig that book out and start it.
